Coat Tree – What Exactly is It?
Perhaps you have heard of a coat tree, but you may have no idea what it really is. Well, basically it is a piece of furniture that is quite tall. It's designed with special hooks to hold coats, umbrellas, hats, and more. Usually these pieces of furniture are put right at an entry way. This way when you walk in the door, coats and other outer garments can go right on the coat tree instead of bringing them all through the house. Not only do they keep the mess out of the rest of the house, but they are great for organization as well. They keep you from having to have wet coats and hats in other places in the home.
You'll find that a coat tree is different than a rack that is hung on the wall. The tree isn't attached to the wall - it actually stands up on its own. The reason it is called a tree is because it looks a bit like a tree. It has a base that is wide and looks a bit like roots. Then it is quite tall with hooks or pegs that look a bit like branches on the tree, which is where you hang the coats and other items. There are some coat tree options out there that come along with a nice shoe bench. This allows people to hang up the coat on the tree and then sit down on the bench part to take off their shoes when they come into the home. A hat rack is often included on the tree, right at the very hat to keep hats from getting bent out of shape. With the hat rack option, hats are kept looking nice instead of getting crushed by other coats on the rack.
In some cases people put these coat tree in the closet so that they are able to keep their coats sorted and separate from other garments. Sometimes people even put other types of clothing on these trees to keep them from being compacted together in their close.
If you decide to purchase a coat tree, you need to be careful with it. Don't overload it with too many items or it may fall over. Try to keep it well balanced as well to prevent it from falling. It's a great idea to put it in an area that is near the door, but make sure it won't get bumped over when people go by. Wet coats should also go on top of the other garments so they are able to dry out and they won't mold.
